As per tradition, this true field blend is a mix of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from the same vineyard, which were harvested and put into an open-top together to co-ferment. The fruit-driven nose of the 2019 Field Blend Zinfandel evokes ripe black plums and blackberries, juicy enough to stain your fingers, with a twinge of wasabi and dried garden herbs. Dark chocolate, cinnamon spice, and vanilla oak influence join that black plum flavor on the palate, with the chocolate transitioning to starch and hazelnut through its extended finish. This wine’s bright acidity, which was quite elevated in its youth, is still pronounced yet fully in balance with a silty body and spicy tannins. Could drink now, or cellar.
