2020 Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon
You may have noticed that we make two clone-specific Cabernet Sauvignons: Clone 30 and Clone 337. So, what’s the difference? Swirl your glass of the 2020 Clone 337, and you’ll immediately find something that sets it apart: lush, highly pronounced aromas of red fruit. While Clone 30 leans into the bold, jammy stereotype of California cabs, Clone 337 is a step in the direction of a Bordeaux red, or even Cabernet Franc. The nose offers up raspberry and cranberry aromas, as well as a soft herbaceousness, followed by an undertone of ground ginger and Ceylon cinnamon. On the palate, the red fruit turns into a fresh cranberry sauce roasted with rosemary, thyme, cinnamon sticks, and charred orange peel. Clone 337 has a higher pronounced acidity and slightly leaner body than Clone 30, while showcasing the great textural complexity and tannins that we love from Cabernet Sauvignon. This mix of acid, body, and tannins points to the ability to cellar this wine for years to come, through 2033.
