Almost Famous Sparkling Grüner Veltliner 2021
Located on the slopes of the Santa Lucia mountain range in Monterey County, Black Jack Vineyard is owned and farmed by the Rava family, a third-generation farming family. The 41-acre block of Grüner Veltliner was one of the first plantings of this varietal in California, and it is the largest planting of Grüner Veltliner in the United States. The vineyard enjoys foggy mornings, afternoon coastal breezes and chilly nights, resulting in expressive, aromatic fruit.
The 2021 impresses with an energetic jet of pin-point tiny bubbles, creating an creamy mousse. It’s fragrence is quite classic: lemon pith and a hint of orange blossom. This vintage’s charismatic palate goes further, suggesting jicama, lime, celery stalk, soda bread and lime, with a great deal of minerality that extends through the finish. Expect an acidity so high and bright, it prickles.
