2021 West Hill Cabernet Sauvignon

If you’re wondering what makes the West Hill different from our East Hill, 337 or Clone 30, Winemaker Julian Halasz describes it as “peppery, with the highest pyrazine levels” of our flagship Cabernets.

This micro-block of Clone 30 Cabernet Sauvignon sits on the the steep, sun-baked south-facing slope of Lone Hill. The East and West side are each a little different, with the fruit on the west side containing more pyrazines than any other Cab grown on the estate. In the 2021, notes of ancho chili and Spanish paprika join plum and cinnamon aromatics. On the palate, flavors of fruit leather, savory plum, all-spice and sweet tobacco situate themselves in a mesh of fine, integrated tannins. With a full body and a strong backbone of acidity, this wine will continue to cellar well through 2034. It already lingers long in the glass: Darcie loved the black raspberry finish.
